As a Financial Planner, my primary goal has always been to offer our clients comprehensive financial guidance that addresses every aspect of their financial lives. For years, we’ve integrated tax strategies into our planning because we understand how vital it is to factor taxes into every financial decision. This emphasis on tax efficiency is a key element of our holistic approach, setting us apart by ensuring that our financial strategies are not only effective but also aligned with each client’s unique tax situation. To further reinforce this commitment, I decided to take the IRS Special Enrollment Examination (SEE).
The SEE consists of three separate exams, each rigorously testing knowledge on individual and business tax returns, tax regulations, and ethical practices. Successfully passing these exams allows a professional to apply for the Enrolled Agent license, which is a federally licensed tax professional credentialed with the Internal Revenue Service. Completing the SEE builds on the strong foundation of tax planning we’ve always integrated into our advisory services and further underscores our commitment to providing comprehensive and informed financial strategies that align with our standards.
Why This Matters for Our Clients
While we’ve always integrated tax planning into our advisory services, completing the SEE is a testament to our dedication to delivering an exceptional client experience. This accomplishment will also allow us to work more seamlessly with our client’s tax preparers who work diligently at ensuring compliance and accurate filings, particularly in the face of complex tax codes, tight deadlines and staffing shortages. However, due to these challenges, their role has primarily been focused on reporting past events.
This is where a comprehensive financial planner can add tremendous value. We look at our client’s entire financial picture—from investments to retirement planning and beyond. With this holistic view, we are uniquely positioned to take a proactive, forward-looking approach to tax planning. Instead of just addressing last year’s numbers, we focus on the future, helping our clients anticipate potential tax implications and aligning their tax strategies with their long-term financial goals.
Simply put, we believe the best client experience comes from a strong collaboration with tax preparers, allowing them to continue working diligently—ensuring compliance and accurate filings—while we can help focus on providing forward-looking strategies that aim to achieve our clients’ long-term financial objectives.
Investing in our Client Experience
Our recent investment in tax planning goes beyond our commitment to staying up-to-date with the ever-changing tax landscape. We have also enhanced our proactive approach by adopting new tax software that allows us to securely access IRS tax transcripts through a simple digital authorization process. This tool provides us with real-time access to critical tax information, enabling us to seamlessly integrate this data into our existing tax planning software. The technology also offers real-time IRS notifications, alerting us to potential issues like unpaid taxes, penalties, or upcoming audits. This means we can address concerns before they become critical and help our clients make well-informed decisions based on the most current data available.
Moving Forward
At our firm, growth is one of our core values—not just in terms of investment returns which we naturally strive for, but also in our commitment to continuous professional and personal development. Successfully completing the SEE and investing in tax planning tools are part of this ongoing effort to enhance our services. It’s not about changing what we do, but about continually improving and investing in the resources that help us serve our clients better.
Whether you’re a current client or considering our services, know that we are dedicated to supporting your financial journey with the best tools and knowledge available. We’re here to help you navigate not just tax season, but every step of your financial path. Thank you for trusting us as your partner, and we look forward to continuing to grow and achieve great things together.
